The international patent was filed

The 30 septembrer 2008 the international patent was filed on September 30, 2008, and its founder summarizes it as follows :

A reactor unit for the photocatalytic treatment of fluids such as air, comprises a catalyst device comprising a support of catalytic material having a generally tubular shape defining a fluid flow channel extending around and along a fluid flow path and a photocatalytic material coated on at least a portion of an inner surface of the support, and a radiation source received in a central portion of the catalyst device. The catalyst material support comprises a wall portion and a plurality of conical projections extending from an inner surface of the wall portion to a tip proximate the radiation source, the conical projections being disposed around the radiation source and along the fluid flow channel.


This patent protects a depollution reactor with the particularity of offering a tube comprising cones on its inner surface. This tube is arranged around a radiative source which can be a UVC lamp. The tube is also covered on its inner surface by a catalytic deposit. This deposit is activated by the photons coming from the radiative source, according to the principle of photocatalysis.
The patent, filed in 2008, protects the heart of MERCATE's technology until 2028 over a geographical area of 10 countries: SWITZERLAND, CHINA, GERMANY, DENMARK, FRANCE, ENGLAND, ISRAEL, INDIA, ITALY, USA

Launch of the SAVAB R&D Project

Launch of the SAVAB R&D Project (Anti-Virus System and Bacteriological Agents) in partnership with the European aircraft manufacturer AIRBUS (formerly EADS) and in collaboration with prestigious research laboratories, the CNRS and INSERM, as well as the company Bertin Technologies.
The aim of the project was to produce a pollution control system specific to aircraft cabins. The collaboration with all the partners was very fruitful for MERCATE, since it allowed it to greatly improve its engine manufacturing process and to validate their effectiveness on several target microorganisms and chemical compounds.

Setting up of the prototype

In april, the viruses tested are the H1N1 and H3N2 influenza viruses. The latter is interesting because the SARS COV 2 virus resembles the H3N2 virus by its size and by the fact that these two viruses have an envelope.
The choice of the three viruses is due to the fact that they are "reference viruses, unavoidable, because H1N1 is the virus of the Spanish flu of 1918 /1919 and responsible for various epidemics more or less strong but regularly present over the years with a focus in 2009/ 2010 we talked about the swine flu; H3N2 was responsible for the flu in Hong Kong (began in this city) made more than a million deaths in 1968/1969 and passed more unnoticed in France because of the events of May 68.

In the end, the choice of the adenovirus as a third virus comes from the fact that this virus has no envelope unlike coronaviruses, DNA viruses.
Very widespread, it contaminates from a very young age, therefore present in nurseries and schools, it can cause ocular, respiratory and digestive pathologies.

The consortium agreement was signed

New project to apply our technology

December, following SAVAB, Bertin Technologies, impressed by the quality of MERCATE technology, decided to propose a new project to apply our technology. Bertin Technologies develops many products for military applications. Using the MERCATE technology for dual military and civil applications seemed to be a natural choice.

Launch of the UNIT'R project

January, launch of the UNIT'R project in partnership with Bertin Technologies, under the scientific aegis of the Directorate General of Armament.
The name of the project, resulting from the contraction between UNIT� and aiR, perfectly matched the desire to propose a portable air decontamination device in the event of a terrorist attack or industrial accident. This project was to allow the evaluation of MERCATE technology for applications in difficult conditions (catastrophic microbiological or chemical pollution). This project allowed MERCATE to validate its effectiveness on fungi and on very high VOC concentrations, a factor of 1000 higher than those usually found in indoor air.
It also validated the effectiveness of an experimental reactor over a one-year period of continuous use.

Launch of "media" tests in accordance with aeronautical standards

In july, launch of "media" tests in accordance with aeronautical standards (temperature resistance up to 105‎° of the media support carried out (between July and October 2012).

Signing of the UNIT'R consortium agreement

Test results on H1N1

On July 31, test results on H1N1, E.Coli , Subtilis and A.Fumigatus in the laboratory of Pr Bruno Lina. The choice of microorganisms was as follows: E.Coli is a widespread bacterium of the digestive system and causes vomiting and diarrhoea. The bacillus Subtilis, has a low pathogenicity in causing food poisoning but above all has very resistant spores, very difficult to eliminate. Aspergillus Fumigatus is a fungus of the Aspergillus family, responsible for very severe infections such as pulmonary aspergilloma, especially in immunosuppressed patients. It can be found on dust and has a strong allergenic power by these spores that spread everywhere.

Submission of the report on performance results in chemistry (abatement of VOCs specific to Nuclear, Radiological, Biological, Chemical issues).

Completion of the module to combat biological proliferation in aircraft

On October 16, Completion of the module to combat biological proliferation in aircraft
Finalization and final report of this exciting project that will have lasted 29 months. This allowed the development of an effective module (control of treatment and maintenance) to fight against biological proliferation in aircraft.

Project TATE (Water Decontamination) is born

Project to evaluate the capabilities of Mercate's technology to treat specific water pollution under real conditions subsidized by BPI for a project in partnership with INSERM Montpellier (link logo) in the framework of a study on WWTP (wastewater treatment plant) and swimming pool water.

Mercate has considerably strengthened its technology both in terms of its know-how and the validation of its patent. These bricks constitute a global technology called "Advanced Oxidation Process", the acronym AOP.

Name change

Aelorve becomes MERCATE, a company of the group which was created in 2011.

Submission of the project to the Ile de France region "Innovons dans l'air des bâtiments publics" (Innovating in the air of public buildings) for which we were awarded a prize. We are working with air pollution sensor manufacturers such as NANO SENSE and PANDO 2 for the web application of the real-time data, we will equip three nurseries for a full year.
